I discovered this lovely little book on Facebook. The author is award-winning Canadian animator and blogger, Jc Little. This coming of age book is a jewel. It is a beautifully illustrated story about a 14 year old girl who is building her last snowman. It is so poignant and tender it brought me to tears when I first read it on my Kindle Fire, and it possesses Ms. Little's trademark humor, as well. It's appeal is broad. Jc's unique animation style is simple yet profound. As an artist, myself, I appreciate it's simplicity, yet complexity. This Christmas my 2 year old grandson (and his family) were visiting for three weeks. After I read this story to him on his first night back in Michigan (from Virginia) he was immediately entranced. He laughed in all the right places, and was very saddened by the 14 year old girl's tears. Every night, he demanded his "Jc Little"! This "Little" book appeals to all ages. I highly recommend this wonderful story. You will be hearing more from this very talented illustrator/cartoonist/animator/award-winning blogger. She is a rising star! Very beautifully done. What a Mother's love can show the TRUE meaning of a young girl's first. This is a keeper.
Great book. Sweet story for any age. The LAST Snowman looks really good on Fire. A must add for your e-book collection.
Once again JC has created magic with her animations. I love this story! This tale perfectly captures the essence of youth tiptoe-ing into young adulthood. I'll definitely be using this tale as a writing prompt with my 17 year old students. Well done, JC, well done!
I loved the illustrations. The emotions came through very clearly in each facial expression. Although my 5 yr old son didn't quite grasp the meaning that older, teenage girls would. He still giggled at all the right places, especially when the snowman was on top of the daughter and she held up the sign. This is definitely worth buying and/or gifting for Christmas. Well done!
I really liked the story and that her mom helped her when she was sad. I was able to read this story on my own.
First book? This is not the work of an amateur. This is the work of someone who is good at what they do. And what she does is entertain. And provoke thought. Over the last few years she's made me laugh, and even made me cry. JC Little knows how to tell a story, and in The Last Snowman, she captures the essence of adolescence and parenting. And she does it in her signature artistic style; simple, yet fluent and expressive.
JC created this little masterpiece on a promise from her daughter. The story is beautifully told through JC's iconic illustrations and storytelling. As a parent, we often wonder when it will be the last time we see an activity our child does regularly whether it is climbing up a tree or building a snowman and the moment is captured within this tale. LOVE it.
